Welcome to our website

Welcome to the website for the Australian Research Council (ARC) and the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Research Network for Parasitology, a national organisation of scientists, universities and research institutions.

Funded under the ARC's Special Research Initiatives Scheme (for Initiatives SR0354888 and SR0354678), this website provides a summary of:

  • The fascination and devastation caused by parasitic diseases
  • Australia's achievements and current research capacity in parasitology
  • The objectives and initiatives of the ARC/NHMRC Research Network for Parasitology

Participating organisations include two large medical research institutes -the Queensland Institute of Medical Research and the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research -as well as the Institute for the Biotechnology of Infectious Diseases at University Technology, Sydney and the Victorian Bioinformatics Consortium.

Also included are a number of very strong parasitology research groups in universities and institutions around the country including Murdoch, Melbourne, Monash, La Trobe, Sydney and Queensland Universities, the Australian National University, and the South Australian Museum, to name a few. In total, 60 research laboratories from 26 different universities and other research organisations around Australia are collaborating to form the ARC/NHMRC Research Network for Parasitology.

Through these collaborations the Network has access to all the facilities, technologies and specialist equipment necessary to conduct modern parasitological research.
