Jobs in Parasitology
Monash University
Post-doctoral Research Fellow and Ph.D. opportunity
Opportunities in Molecular Parasitology exist in the Cooke Laboratory in The School of Biomedical Sciences at
Monash University for researchers wanting to become involved in exciting work to
elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which parasites of red blood
cells (malaria and Babesia) cause disease in humans and animals. The laboratory is
supported by funding from national (NHMRC and ARC) and international (NIH)
bodies and our work is frequently published in high ranking scientific journals
including Blood and Journal of Cell Biology. We are looking for highly motivated
individuals to join our friendly and collaborative research group.
Two positions are currently available:
Post-doctoral Research Fellow
This individual will be involved in a project to
elucidate the function of novel proteins in malaria and Babesia parasites which we
believe play a role in host cell invasion and modification. The successful candidate
will have a PhD and a track record in microbiology, molecular cell biology or a
related area. Previous experience in molecular parasitology is highly desirable but
not essential.
Ph.D. studentship
A position is available for a highly-motivated and enthusiastic
PhD student. Applicants should have completed a BSc (Hons) degree and have
been awarded a H1 or equivalent. The project will investigate the cellular and
molecular mechanisms by which malaria and Babesia parasites modify red blood
cells in order to establish a suitable environment for intracellular replication and
evade the host immune response.
