The 2014 ASP AGM and induction of new ASP Fellows will take place Wednesday 2nd July, from 5pm at ANU Commons, pre-AGM drinks in the foyer from 430pm. ASP Students in receipt of a 2014 ASP Student Conference Grant are required to attend.

Speakers and Sessions

The conference will take place in Canberra from Monday June 30 – Thursday July 3, 2014, inclusive, at the Australian National University, the site of the Society’s first conference in 1964. It will be a truly memorable event, celebrating the past, the present and the future of Australian parasitology and features events for early career researchers and the general public with the following confirmed themes and invited speakers:

Plus we will be staging two celebratory and provocative sessions, at the start and end of the conference. Welcome from Conference Chair and A Celebration of Australian Parasitology will take place 5pm Monday 30th June at ANU Commons (there will be pre-event drinks at 430pm) and The Future of Parasitology will take place at 3pm on Thursday 3rd July (following afternoon tea) at ANU Commons. Professor Graham Mitchell (AO) will chair both these sessions, drawing on the wisdom of some of the ASP’s Fellows for the first and our Bancroft Mackerras Medalists for the closing session.

Monday 30th June, 330pm Early Career Researchers are invited to a lively "Presenting Science" event followed by drinks at ANU Commons. Book through your conference registration for this free event.

Tuesday 1st July, 7am ASP Post-Graduate Students are invited to a Early Career Researcher breakfast workshop at ANU Commons. Book through your conference registration for this free event.

Evening and Social Events and Public Outreach

Sunday 29th June, 2pm at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. We will run part one of a two-part public lecture series “The Parasite War Years” held at the Australian War Memorial, as part of our ASP-Inspiring Australia Public Outreach program. Everyone is welcome to attend, but participants must make their own way to and from the AWM.

Monday 30th June, 7pm delegates are invited to a Welcome Reception in Kings Hall, Old Parliament House (including access to the Senate, House of Representatives and Museum of Australian Democracy). This event is free for conference delegates, additional tickets for accompanying persons can be purchased through your conference registration. We will transport delegates to and from Old Parliament House, buses depart ANU Commons at 645pm for Old Parliament House. Buses depart Old Parliament House at 10pm for ANU Commons.

Tuesday 1st July, 5pm (following pre-poster drinks at 430pm) join the very popular Poster Oral Presentation Session, followed by Poster Viewing and stand-up Buffet Dinner at ANU Commons. Additional tickets for accompanying persons can be purchased through your conference registration.

Thursday 3rd July, 630pm Conference Gala Dinner at the iconic Hyatt Hotel, Canberra. This event is free for conference delegates, additional tickets for accompanying persons can be purchased through your conference registration. We will transport delegates to and from the Hyatt, buses depart ANU Commons at 615pm for the Hyatt. Buses depart the Hyatt at 11pm for ANU Commons.
