Coccidia

Probably the most common and numerous gastrointestinal and tissue parasites in animals. These protozoans are a very disparate group with either one or two host lifecyles. The one host coccidian Eimeria tenalla is rapidly fatal in chickens while Toxoplasma gondii which is usually found in mice and cats often infects humans. Cyclospora is a human parasite causing gut infection.
