Funding Assistance is available for ASP members to apply for Researcher Exchanges, Training Courses, Visiting International Lectureships, Workshops and Grant Writing Retreats through the Network Researcher Exchange, Training and Travel Awards Scheme .

In 2010 there will be 3 rounds for Network Researcher Exchange, Training and Travel Awards. For planning purposes we have set the following dates for submission of your Network Travel
Award application. Following each of these dates the applications will be assessed by the
assessment committee and applicants will be advised of the outcome where possible
within four weeks.

Travel Award Funding Assistance
The NHMRC has provided OzEMalaR with funds to support exchange between Australian malariologists and members
of EVIMalaR (European Virtual Institute of Malaria Research)through the Australia Europe Malaria Research Cooperative Travel Award Funding Assistance. Funding Assistance is available for Postdocs and PhD students who are ASP members to undertake research for short periods in European labs as part of their project. More senior investigators are also eligible for support where the primary objective is collaborative research.

The next date for submission of OzEMalaR Travel Award applications in 2010
Since 2005 the Network has awarded 112 grants worth almost $500,000 to help support projects. These include:
- Five grant writing retreats
- Almost 80 different researcher exchanges both internationally and nationally including an exchange to King's College, London to carry out electron microscopy studies on the malaria parasite P.falciparum.
- Researcher exchanges between malaria research laboratories of Geoff McFadden at the University of Melbourne, and Kiaran Kirk at the Australian National University, Canberra; these Exchanges have lead to significant research findings and a Nature paper published in 2006.
- Visiting International Lectureship for Professor Jacob Golenser of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem; a distinguished parasitologist with particular expertise in redox biochemistry of host-parasite relationships in malaria.
- Seven students have attended the Biology of Parasitism course at Woods Hole, USA and eight other young parasitologists have attended courses relevant to their research.
- Workshops and meetings held in Australia including the Molecular Approaches to Malaria 2008 meeting.
